Since 2003, when AP Marine was formed, scientific and technical personnel specialising in marine biology, ecology, fisheries, aquaculture, oceanography and marine sciences in general are at the core of its functioning. This personnel is actively involved in collecting and analysing scientific data and creating collaborations with all stakeholders in both private and public sectors to promote the sustainable use of the Marine Environment.
AP Marine has provided services, for the last 20 years, to the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR), of the Cyprus Government such as experimental fisheries surveys, consultancy and services relating to the Marine Strategy Framework Directive as well as acting as an independent collaborator in projects. It has carried out various biodiversity assessments regarding Natura 2000 Areas and has collaborated in the creation and management of marine protected areas in research and policy-making activities. Moreover, AP Marine has extensive experience in research projects both covering both coastal and offshore areas. It works for a range of marine related stakeholders ranging from fish farm enterprises to the oil and gas industry, providing survey and consultancy work for baseline assessment studies, licensing and monitoring activities. It has carried out cable and gas pipeline projects, large surveys relating to offshore cetacean populations, benthic habitat mapping and cartography, and regularly works on environmental impact assessments at strategic, Regional, Sectoral and Project levels. Additional projects it has collaborated in, include, large scale development projects such as marine reclamation to create islands and marina constructions.
